Tuxedo + barefoot > cancer

Remember Bob Ewing? He's the guy who ran the Marine Corps Marathon last year barefoot to raise awareness for the Bone Marrow Registry?

Well, he's back at it this year. Not only is he running the marathon barefoot, he's also wearing a tuxedo. Check this out:

Bob has teamed up with an excellent charity, Swab a Cheek Save a Life to raise money and find a donor match for Amit Gupta.

Bob makes his run tomorrow morning. I think it would be super awesome if all of you gave him your support. While you're at it, I hope you join me in registering with the Bone Marrow Foundation.  It takes a minute of your time and you could save a life.  Here's how to help:

A potpourri of goodness

Honestly, this is too much good stuff for one blog entry, but I'm a little rushed for time, so you're getting it all in one superpost. Enjoy:

1) Girls can move too

This statement will probably come as no surprise to most girls, but it bears repeating. Popular perceptions of Parkour, lifting, or any kind of robust outdoor physical activity are that they are for boys only. Bulls#&t. And I have the pictures to prove it:

You can find the whole gallery here. My thanks to Anna, Becky, and Jes for letting me record their awesomeness. Now, ladies, doesn't this look like fun? You should come out and try it!

2) New Fifth Ape classes & Fundamentals!

We've got our first "Low Impact" class tomorrow (Sat, Oct. 29th) at 10AM. It's going to be a lot of fun - lots of games, prehab, mobility work etc.  If you dig the Fifth Ape approach, but don't want to tackle all the jumping around quite yet, this is the class for you. If you're already fit and/or an accomplished athlete, then the balance and agility training will benefit you greatly. In short, it's for everyone, and it's going to be awesome. Check out our schedule for more info and to sign up!

We've also got our next round of Parkour Fundamentals going off on Nov. 5th. If you want to focus on Parkour, this is the option for you - we'll take you through a complete curriculum over the course of 6 weeks. Once again, our schedule is the place to go for more info.

Finally, we have a "regular" Fundamentals class starting on Nov. 26th. This is the best way to introduce yourself to Fifth Ape and get up to speed on the basics. You know the drill - head over to the schedule for more.

3) The great naming contest!

If you haven't seen it already, check out our HIIT Drill Naming Contest.  We've gotten some great entries already and we're thirsty for more! Here are some of our current favorites:

"Get Out And Push, Princess," "I See Rainbows," "Boldly Brave Sir Robin," "Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition," "Mostly Dead," "Nobody puts Baby in the corner," "Hello, Mcfly!" "Goonies never say die!," and "Colin's Mom says 'hi.'" (those last ones rhyme!)

We'll keep this open until Wednesday, November 2nd, and announce the winner(s) that Friday. Give us your best shot!

Fifth Ape user contest! Fabulous prizes! Kinda...

I hope you all are ready for this one...

We, your intrepid Fifth Ape coaches, have been busily creating fun new HIIT drills (high intensity interval training) for our classes. Some of you have already experienced one or two - and there are more to come!

Well, we got to thinking.  Crossfit has names for its signature workouts.  We have at least 2.6x more badassery than Crossfit, so we need names that are at least 2.6x more badass than the Crossfit WODs. Now, we're up against some really creative zingers like "Fran," so this might be a tall order.... *snark*

We've come up with a few names already but we need more - and this is where you come in. Give us your best shot - either in the comment section below or via email.  We'll give them a look and select a few favorites to use as names for some of our most devious and fearsome HIIT drills.  If you happen to be our #1 pick, we'll send you a Fifth Ape shirt - no, really.

To qualify, your entry must follow the following guidelines:

1) Odd and Funny

2) mildly esoteric reference

3) bonus points for 80's movie references

Here are some examples that we've already come up with:

- "The only way to be sure"

- "Mounting the sandworm"

- "I let him go"

- "Die capitalist pig"

- "1.21 jiggawatts!"

- "Round two, Bruv"

- "Who is your Daddy, and what does he do?"

- "It's not the years, it's the mileage"

Give us your best shot! And thanks!!
